Summary Description
Abstract: The Ola Nilsson Liljenquist Papers (1948-1989) contain an article and a biography. Ola Nilsson Liljenquist (1825-1906) was born in Ignaberga, Christianstaad, Sweden, where he was converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). He came to the United States and moved to Utah to be with other members of the LDS Church. Upon his arrival, he met with Brigham Young, who asked him to help with the managing of Cache Valley, in Northern Utah. He settled in Hyrum, Utah, where he was made a bishop for the LDS Church, and also served ten terms as mayor. He created a "cooperative city" when individual success of the settlers could not be achieved. He also implemented the construction of the road through Blacksmith Fork Canyon that continues to a junction that leads to Ogden or Bear Lake.
