United Nations Official Documents System

The Official Documents System, which became operational in 1993, has two goals. One is to bring all UN duty stations (such as regional commissions) online, and the other to expand coverage retrospectively to 1946 and to consolidate access to all documents issued by the UN. Currently, the ODS contains close to 800,000 files and approximately 100,000 new documents are added each year. Older documents are also added on a daily basis. In addition to the two archival collections located at the UN libraries in New York and Geneva, respectively, the ODS will, in the future, serve as the electronic archive of the UN documents.

The U.S. Congressional Documents Collection features the bound and daily versions of Congressional Record, its three predecessor titles, and other important congressional material.
The Congressional Record, first published in 1873, is essentially the complete printed chronicle of debates, proceedings and speeches of the United States Congress. Previously congressional debates were catalogued in the Annals of Congress (1789-1824), Register of Debates (1824-1837) and Congressional Globe (1833-1873). The Record is believed to be the most complete and accurate count of congressional matters to date. The Congressional Record will be complete in HeinOnline by summer 2008.
The American State Papers are a collection of 6,278 documents in 38 volumes comprising the legislative and executive documents of the first fourteen Congresses from 1789 to 1838. These Papers cover such historical and intriguing events as Lewis and Clark's Expedition, Burr's Conspiracy and Arrest, and the Treaty of the Creek Indians made by Andrew Jackson. They also include speeches made by Presidents Washington, Adams, Jefferson and Madison.
The Journals of the Continental Congress are the records of daily proceedings of the Continental Congress, as kept by Secretary Charles Thomson. The Continental Congress was the first national government of the United States. Delegates from all of the thirteen colonies, except Georgia, met in Philadelphia in 1774 to oppose the unfair treatment of the colonies by the British. During its fifteen-year tenure, the Congress adopted several monumental and influential works, such as the Declaration of Independence, on July 4, 1776; the Articles of Confederation, Nov. 15, 1777; and the United States Constitution, Sept. 17, 1787.
