Welcome to the New Books Website!

The New Books Shelf:

You are always welcome to visit the Marriott Library's New Books shelf which is located on the third floor near the east entrance. Click here, or click the image to the right to see a map of the 3rd floor.
New Books are added to this shelf every day, and rotated every week, so visiting it one of the best ways to find out what is new at the Marriott Library.

Acquisitions:

Between 3,000 and 8,000 books are shipped directly to the Marriott Library every single month, and it is only through the constant efforts of the acquisitions division that these books can be brought to the students, friends, faculty, and staff of the University of Utah.

About the New Books Page:

FAQ:

What materials are on the new books list?
The list is composed primarily of books and other single items but does not include continuously issued titles like journals or items without Library of Congress call numbers.

I can't find a certain book in the catalog, or on the New Books Page.

Who chooses what books the library acquires?
Click Here to view a list of Subject Selectors and Department Representatives.

How are the New Books sorted on the Browse web page?
Books are sorted by call number. We have adapted major sections of the Library of Congress system in order to fit a classification system based on the University of Utah's academic departments. This works well for long-established disciplines like music or mathematics, however items in newer or interdisciplinary fields like bioengineering or parks, recreation and tourism might not sort in a way that will please everyone. To find what you are looking for in such fields, we strongly suggest that you check related subjects. Searching by title may also be helpful.

Why is there no fiction subject listed?
Although fiction is considered to be a subject at many city libraries, call numbers at research libraries work differently. Many titles can be found in the English, or Language and Literature subjects and any others can be found by searching for title or author.

When is the New Books list updated?
The New Books List is updated on the first day of every month, and it contains every book that was acquired by the library during the entirety of the previous month. Please use the catalog to find books that have been ordered but have not yet arrived, or search the catalog by author or title to find books that have arrived this month but have not yet been added to the New Books list.
